In 1923, DeWolf Thompson wondered if people might pay to spend the night at his sheep farm with the spectacular views of Chilmark’s fishing port and Vineyard Sound. He was right. Families have been booking “same time next year” for one hundred years. As a result, DeWolf’s sheep farm became a historic Martha’s Vineyard Hotel.

Today Menemsha Inn & Cottages continues as the treasured base camp because families value the magic of up island and all that is at their doorstep. For instance, Lucy Vincent Beach, Larsons Fish Market, kayaking the Pond, and the sun setting into Vineyard Sound.
